I stumbled upon the Painswick Hotel one Sunday afternoon by mistake when exploring the Cotswolds with a girlfriend. The building looked impressive from the outside but the inside showed signs of wearing. The hotel offered me a considerable discount on a suite and to avoid a long drive back to London i decided to give it a go. The room... more

We held our wedding and reception at the Painswick in January 2007. When we booked the venue back in Spring 2006 it was under different ownership. During the period of planning our wedding it was bought by a new owner who has major plans for the hotel. In January some of the refurbishment had taken place and was to a... more

We went to this hotel after a lot of research and reading of rave reviews, mostly prompted by the hotel's own excellent website. What the latter fails to mention is that the hotel is now under new management - and the new managers don't appear to care at all about their guests! Having said that the only good thing about... more

Having stayed at the Painswick on two separate occasions in the past, I was really looking forward to a weekend of feeling special and relaxing. I was in for a shock! Previously, you would wander down from your lovely room to the lounge with a huge roaring fire and order from the menu while sipping on champagne and tasting lovely... more

We've stayed at the Painswick three times previously over the past five years and found that it had always lived up to the favorable reviews. We had even recommended it to many friends and associates as the perfect Cotswold destination. Never again! This place has recently changed management and it is obvious that they are cutting corners. The rooms have... more

The Painswick Hotel is a beautiful building, with a friendly, helpful staff, and good restaurant. The only negatives are that the rooms are a bit tired and expensive for what you get. They need of some renovation to replace worn out carpeting and the like. They made it known that the hotel is under new management, and perhaps this will... more

We got married at the Painswick Hotel on the 3rd June and i stayed the night before in the room with the balcony overlooking the little croquet green. The Painswick hotel is a beautiful building in fantastic surroundings. The rooms are wonderful and i loved the four poster bed! The staff can not do enough to make your stay wonderful,... more

It is well over 3 years since we stayed here and the water pipes were noisy then. We were woken at approx. 6 am by them. My husband is in the plumbing trade and he couldn't believe it. We informed the staff at 7 am when we eventually found someone and they gave us the impression that this was the... more

My wife and I stayed at the Painswick on our way to South Africa from June 5 to June 8, 2006. We found the hotel to be a wonderful, well run, clean destination for our car tour of the Cotswolds. The staff were very friendly and helpful, yet unobtrusive, and did a great job of helping us out with directions... more
