The Ardgowan wasn’t my first choice after checking reviews of hotels in the area but after trying a few other places with no luck I booked the small double room, was advised it was smaller than the other double rooms and it was discounted to £100 per night. The room was clean and comfortable but was small as advised and... more

Stayed here for 2 nights after booking by phone. Have been to St Andrews many times and try to stay somewhere different each time. Front desk staff very friendly. Stayed in their smallest double room, which they warned us was small at the time of booking. Scaffolding was still there, right outside the window, which we weren't warned about. Fine... more

This hotel is definitely not worth its three star rating: a B&B would have been superior. The friendly receptionist did not compensate for the £60 a night each we paid for a small, dingy, dark corner 'double' room with scaffolding right outside the window about which we had not been forewarned. The aspect was not cheered by the filthy carpet,... more

The Hotel has completed a £1.2 million refurbishment with completely new decor and furnishings designed by Michal Pietranek who has worked extensively with the Royal Family. The furnishings have been rated higher than 3 star standard by Visit Scotland. While the work on the rooms was completed on schedule, the builders were delayed with the external works. The work is...

We were a party of 8 golfers and we stayed for 2 nights in the Ardgowan Hotel. Arrived in St.Andrew's at 12 noon and rooms were ready. Rooms were small but perfectly adequate - we were golfing all day and only used the rooms to sleep in. Package included breakfast and evening meal. Food was excellent quality and wine was... more

We booked the Ardgowan Hotel for 4 of us for one night as we were attending a friend's wedding at RAF Leuchars. The cost per room was £100 so we thought it would have been very acceptable for that price. On arrival we were given two rooms at opposite ends of the hotel although we had told them we were... more

The hotel has undergone a further significant upgrading programme using a designer engaged periodically by the Royal Family. This was to complete early March 2008. The contractors have let us down and the scaffolding at the rear has not yet been removed--now scheduled for the end of April. Almost all of our guests have been most understanding and have been...

We actually booked this hotel through a deal in the Scotsman newspaper and got 2 nights for the price of one. I have to say that if we were quoted the usual rate, I am not sure we would have stayed here. Anyway the hotel was very nice and just a minutes walk from the Old Course Golf Club and... more

We booked the Ardgowan at fairly short notice for my husbands 40th birthday; we took our 3 children aged from 13-5 years and were understandably reluctant to have seperate rooms but the Ardgowan provided us with a very large family room which comfortably housed all 5 of us. The room was clean and well appointed with an en suite shower... more

My golfer husband and i just returned from a vacation that included 3 nights at the Ardgowan. From our initial contact onward, they were a pleasure. After reading previous reviews, we weren't sure what to expect. However, they responded promptly to all our contacts which, given the time difference with the USA, made things much easier to arrange. We arrived... more

Incredibly disappointing. A total rip off at £120 per room. Owners need to visit a city hotel to understand what standards should be - even for a 3 star hotel. The place is run for staff - not guests, This is highlighted by having to take breakfast before 9am and check out by ten - even on Sundays! None of... more

When I said to the Hotel Manager that we were a group of 20 forty-something male golfers visiting St Andrews who drank a lot of Guinness I was worried that we might prove too large a group for this well positioned 19 bedroom hotel to manage. This was not the case at all and the flexibility he showed throughout our... more
