Excellent location and design of bar and restaurant around a rocky hill. Rock Hyrax excellent. Lodge big, rooms basic and absolutely no soundproofing, so when people in rooms down corridor leave at 5.30 for their balloon ride, you know about it. Water pressure a real problem, not up to standard for such a large hotel. Not enough staff on reception... more

Like its two sister properties, this property is undergoing major renovations, updating it from its 1970s Brady Bunch look. The setting is very cool, built in the Serengeti amonst a rock outcropping. You will be spending your time with the resident monkeys, baboons and hyrax. Upon the rock outcropping is a newer pool that was not yet functional while we... more

At the heart of the Serengeti. Imaginatively build into a rock outcrop (Kopje). Wonderfully setting. View from rocky terrace (with obligatory beer of course) over the plains at sunset is magnificent. Family of five of us stayed for 2 nights in July 08 on full board package as part of a safari. Its part of a chain of lodges operated... more

Visiting the fabled Serringetti admitedly brings a certain level of expectation... Our Safari outfitter (Multichoice Safaris of Arusha) had booked entirely with Hotels & Lodges Limited, who owns this property. We arrived for our 2 night stay after a long dusty ride to find no running water in the rooms... We were told that the problem would be corrected soon...... more

Like the other national park hotels owned by Hotels & Lodges group in Tanzania, this hotel isn't anything spectacular in terms of rooms, service or food, but all three were acceptable. As with other hotels on the northern circuit (eg Ngorongoro & Lake Manyara), the main selling point is really the location/view. Just being in the Serengeti is an incredible... more

We got to this hotel because we were forced by the Kenya situation to cancel a trip at the last minute and change to Tanzania. For what it's worth, the parks in Tanzania are terrific as are most of the accomodations. The Wildlife Lodges in Tanzania, we were told, are in the process of being transferred to private ownership--they were... more

The location of this lodge was right in the middle of it all, so the wildlife is not far away. The food here was marginal, with most of the buffet items sitting in the steamers for hours. One morning the pineapple was covered with fruit flies, and the staff (who were generally unattentive) didn't seem to notice or care. The... more

Two Night Stay as part of a Safari Package One of two highlights of the holiday, the other being the Ngorongoro Crater. The hotel itself was superbly located in a truly isolated position - no light pollution and at night all one could here was the wildlife. There were excellent viewing platforms at the hotel and even has its own... more

Awful rooms with broken sanitation (not mended for years), the worse food I got for a long time - it is just a rip-off for tourists. You are not allowed to go to the rubbish-pit, but it is worth trying it. They throw everything away there, you can see animals (monkeys and others) with deep wounds, because they cut themselves... more

You don't want to stay there. Enough other options available in the Serengeti. It needs maintenance, furniture replacement, better cooks, better service and all the rest. All "Hotels & Lodges Tanzania ltd" Wildlife lodges seem to share the same issues: management takes your money, the location / view is great but infrastructure and service is terrible. Don't go to the... more
