Hidden away in one of Stone Town's many back alleys, the Al Johari hotel is an Arabian nights style gem. Its gorgeous decorations ooze style and atmosphere. The room was modest in size but plenty made up for by the beautiful wooden furniture in it. The bathroom is modern and super stylish. The rooftop terrace with its restaurant provides a... more

Stayed at Al-Johari for one night on our last night in Zanzibar. The staff are all very friendly, the receptionist is good fun for a joke and threw in a bottle of bubbly when he realised we were honeymooners. The location is ideal if you intend to just shop a little on Kenyatta Road and see the main sights. It's... more

The Al Johari was extremely well located in the Shangani district of Stone Town (Everything you would want to see was within walking distance!) Sunset on the roof terrace was lovely and the food in the restaurant was exceptionally good (the crab curry being a wonderful house speciality and the chef coming out to speak to us about the meal).... more

Nice location. Tucked away but within easy walking reach of most sights. Very friendly staff, including the male receptionist who was polite, efficient and helpful. Our room (101) on the ground floor was rather small, but this is limited by the building itself. Well fitted out with luxury finishes, including the sink - but a bit over the top and... more

I was really surprised at how lovely the hotel was from as soon as we arrived - it is still sparkling clean from it's opening and the beginning of the year and the rooms are lovely. It was a welcome surprise. The waiting and... more

Despite the hotel being clean, well finished and the staff being generally friendly I would not return or recommend it to a friend. It is very over priced for what you get - there's little communal space, no pool and no where to hang out to escape the hassle that Stone Town can be. The room I had was poky... more

We stayed for 2 nights at the Al-Johari and it was a truly pleasant experience. While the location is tucked away from the main drags (which makes it feel safer) it is still in walking distance from most everything you will want to see. The rooms on the lower floors are a bit dark and smelled a little musty. We... more
