Okay, the old saying "You get what you pay for" certainly applies here. For the price you get a room, which is reasonably clean and not too small (small rooms are typical in New York City.) They only had smoking rooms available, so I guess it isn't fair of my to complain of the stench exuding from the hallways and... more

Where can i start????? The hallway on the bottom floor looks like you're in a scary movie. When my man and i went there for the summer, we actually had to ask to change rooms. In the 1st room, the bathroom was dirty and there was a "stain" on the sheets. Can u say yuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. The second room was on... more

you get what you pay for‎ The staff were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. The room was not the worst I've stayed in. It wasn't disgusting but it wasn't clean. We went out and bought Febreeze anti-microbial and a scented candle and cleaned up the bathroom. The bed was pretty good. The sheets were clean and the bed didn t... more

Date of Stay: 2008 08 23. I travel. A Lot. I usually stay at Newark Airport hotels when I want to explore Manhattan for the weekend. I've never seen Coney Is. so I wanted to stay in Brooklyn. This property is typical of a vintage hotel ( the elevator has two sets of doors) and it does need some paint... more

This place was not the best looking hotel butt the service was good. At 130-150 a night it seems a little expensive. I think it would be worth spending a little bit more money and staying in Manhattan. If you are planning on taking Subway it is far so plan on taking a bus( B4) to the nearest station which... more

This place if OK by me. I can understand the basis for some of the bad reviews but overall the Golden Gate worked out fine for me and my girlfriend on a recent visit to Coney Island for the AVP tournament. Yes it's older. Yes there was some less than classy clientèle. Yes it could use a coat of paint... more

There was the NY marathon so it was hard to get a hotel, except this dive. Everything was outdated and I have a knock onmy door asking if I "wanted company". I also got a phone call to my room asking for me name (someone I DID NOT know). I also requested a non-smoking room but upon arrival there was... more

Boy did I have trepidations after reading the review (as did my teenage daughter) but we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. Staff were courteous and helpful. The room had new furniture and carpeting (but ok, it's not the Sheraton Dream bed) but you can't beat it for the price which is important to many of us. very conveniently... more

We arrived to the hotel around 11 pm on a Saturday night. Thank goodness we arrived so late or we would have probably gone else where. In Florida, a $125 will get you a lot more- for one it will get you an elevator that doesn't eat you. As the doors close- don't try to keep them open, your limbs... more

I do not know why this hotel keeps receiving terrible reviews. My boyfriend and I have stayed there one weekend a summer for the past three years, and each year it is a bit more impressive. This past trip, I was very pleased to find that new ownership/ management has led to a friendlier staff, more hospitable rooms, and an... more
