We stayed at Breezes June 28 through July 6 for our honeymoon. We arrived at Sangster on Saturday evening, went straight to the Superclubs desk, and were on our way to Breezes within 15 minutes. After surviving one of the most insane (but exciting) bus rides ever, we were warmly greeted by the bellman, given a nice frozen cocktail and shown to our room.

SUMMARY-Overall we had a great time. The weather treated us well. The grounds, the pools, and the beach were all incredible. The not so good....our room was constanly damp with no ventilation (and had mosquitos), the staff would rather have been anywhere but there, and the food was not good. Breezes is okay and has the superior beach, but Hedonism 3 is much more fun and guests/staff are much friendlier. Next time, we probably won't do an all-inclusive because most of the things we wanted to do were not included and we didn't eat, drink, snorkel or use enough of the other "inclusive" amenities to make up the price difference versus a standard resort. If you are a moderate or nondrinker who wants good service when you need it, and mostly just want to relax at the beach or in the pool, a non-inclusive will save you some $$. Read on for more details....

POOLS- they were great- especially the cascading pool with ocean view, but they all closed at 6:30 and the swim up bar closed even earlier than that. Another issue was beach towel service. We were given one card each to exchange for beach towels. If we didn't have the cards at checkout, we get charged a $40 fee. After the first towel exchange there were no clean towels, or no attendent around, which meant we couldn't get clean towels or our stupid cards so we were stuck with wet dirty towels until checkout.

FOOD- I'm not particular and usually eat anything that doesn't eat me first, but the food at Breezes was just not up to par. Presentation was great, but what really matters to me is the taste, and even high quality Jamaican ganja from the nice "seashell salesman" at the beach couldn't help in this area. The exception would be the Starlight Grill and the Japanese restaurant- good food and pretty good service at both . The Italian restaurant was heavy on ambiance, service, & presentation but once again, lousy food. My steak was cooked correctly in the center but burned to a crisp on the outside. It was served with a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and 2 or 3 green beans. I don't recall what my wife had, but it wasn't much better.

By far, the worst restaurant was the buffet. Not only was the food not good and the same thing everyday, the service was horrible. We watched our food get cold many times awaiting someone to bring our utensils. Once we were even asked to get up and move from a clean table to a dirty table six feet away that someone had just vacated. The alternative for lunch is the Reggae Cafe. The jerk chicken is usually good (if you can get a piece with some meat on it), but the fries are not etible and the jerk pork is about 98% fat. Service wasn't great there either.

STAFF- Although I somewhat understand since they don't work for tips, the food servers, bartenders, and watersports attendants seemed to hate their job/lives.. My main drink was a Pina Colada, which was easy for the bartenders since they're pre-made in the machine, but they would just put the slush in a cup and then dump Appleton on top of it. I had to mix them all myself....not a big deal for one or two, but it got to be an annoyance by day 3 or 4.
My wife isn't a regular smoker but bought a pack for the heck of it. She only smoked one or two and left the rest in our room. Over the course of the week she noticed that the housekeeping person would steal 3 or 4 each time she made our room. We thought it was funny, but it also worried us a bit.

ROOM- We stayed in one of the so-called deluxe rooms, ground floor with a patio. It was not convenient to come & go through the main door, so we mostly used the sliding glass patio door. This was ok but doing so meant leaving our room unlocked. The safe broke twice, but to Breezes credit, someone came to fix it within 30 minutes each time. The alarm clock had some missing segments that made reading the minutes impossible and it was insanely complicated to set the alarm.

The bed was of average comfort and my request for an extra pillow was met immediately. One suggestion would be that they buy some fitted sheets! I woke up dozens of times lying on bare mattress (yuck!). My biggest complaint about the room is that it was very mildewy, causing our clothes/bedding to be constantly damp. Outside the room, I never saw an insect (even in the pristine jungle area), but inside there were huge mosquitos that waited until I was asleep to chew up my head and arms.

ACTIVITIES- We only participated in a couple of the activities and watched a few others, but most of them were pretty lame. Not all Breezes fault though, since there just were not a lot guests to participate. Being underbooked was a double-edged sword. On one hand it was good because there wasn't a lot of waiting and we always got same day reservations. On the other, there were a lot of locals allowed in. I'm not sure if they purchased day passes or were friends and family of the staff, but for the most part they were completely unfriendly bordering on rude.

MUSIC- Most of the music was awful, whether pumping through the sound system or being played by the house band. The reggae was not bad, but inexplicably there was not very much of it. It was mostly hip-hop and occasionally something jazzy. The majority of the guests were 30-50 year old white people, who overwhelmingly do not care for these genres. It seemed like they were playing music for the staff, rather than the guests.

CHECKING OUT- Another all-inclusive pitfall....We were told to have our bags ready for pickup at 9AM Sunday and that the bus would leave for Sangster at 10AM......ok except our flight wasn't until 2 PM and the airport is only an hour away, with minimal security. I would have rather spent the extra 2-4 hours on the beach and paid for a taxi to get us there closer to our departure time.

My wife and I started going to Jamaica 15 years ago and the first resort we went to was JamaicaJamaica which is now Breezes Runaway Bay. In the past 15 years we have been back to Jamaica over 50 times and over 30 times to Breezes Runaway Bay. Having stayed at most of the other all-inclusive resorts on the island we now make most of our visits to Breezes Runaway Bay.

Why Jamaica, and why Breezes? From day one in Jamaica, my wife and I fell in love with the people, their culture and their way of life. The Jamaicans are the nicest most beautiful people that we have ever met in all the places we’ve been in the world. That is why they are voted, year in and year out, by Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine, as the friendliest people in the Caribbean.

We love Breezes Runaway Bay because it has everything that my wife and I are looking for in a resort. First of all, the food is always magnificent and the drinks are the best on the island. We are both very avid golfers and Breezes Runaway Bay has one of the best championship golf courses in the Caribbean, which is right across the street from the resort. We also love to snorkel and Breezes Runaway Bay is one of the few resorts in the Caribbean that has a coral reef that you can swim to right off the beach. The last thing to mention about the resort is that the beach is the nicest that we’ve been to anywhere in the world!

We now plan trips to Breezes Runaway Bay 3 to 4 times a year. The people at Breezes Runaway Bay have become like family to us and we spend most of our birthdays, anniversaries and holidays at the resort. We also have had a countless number of family and friends traveling with us to Breezes Runaway Bay and they have loved the resort and returned as well. This is why my wife and I consider Breezes Runaway Bay to be our “Home Away from Home”.

One last thing, a special thank you to Sandra, the Guest Relations Manager, who makes everything at the resort run smoothly. She is a doll!

“Shaking My Head, not sure what to say (blank stare)”

Breezes Runaway Bay Resort & Golf Club

We went to the property to do a site tour for our future wedding. We had to initiate greeting the staff with good morning or good evening and didn’t feel that the staff was happy to be working there. Sandra, the customer relations rep was over the top excited about her job and had outstanding customer service with a pretty smile. We had a good time relaxing for our stay, but decided that the resort was not up to par for our wedding and the ambiance that we were going for. The food was ok, we have had MUCH better at all inclusive places. Chocolate cake and other items had no taste or was just bland. It had nothing to do with persons with food issues such as diabetes or the like. If I were blind folded, more than likely I would not have been able to identify most foods with my taste buds because it was bland. The entertainment was nice each night, and the cheap drinks were ok. In one of my Bob Marley drinks, I sucked up a rock in my straw and thought it was a piece of ice...NOT. For two mornings straight, we had no wash cloths which had me badgering house keeping constantly. I was told they ran out each time. That turned me off so bad. We had a big water bug in our room and the room safe happened to be broke...(blank stare). We went to the gym to work out and I have never in my life time seen older equipment. It left our hands smelling very molding/musty and rust was on the strength training machines. We had to make do, but going back to the room with no wash cloths set me off. We really enjoyed the couples massage though!!!

“The Perfect Wedding at The Perfect Resort”

Breezes Runaway Bay Resort & Golf Club

Okay, let me preface my review by stating what a few travellers have stated in earlier reviews: "your experience is what you make of it and just like you would in the states (even if you are paying your money) you should always treat people like you want to be treated, because "attitude will always beget attitude" Now with that out of the way I will break my trip down into the stages of our Journey. OOh and by the way we had a group of 10 people stay at breezes for my wedding and had 70 other guest who stayed at other locations.

Flight: we did the a charter out of St. Louis and those are always entertaining to say the least.

Airport Arrival: The Immigration experience in Jamaica can go either way, sometimes they're pleasant and other times they just seem to be going through the motions. Customs is not bad either, again, you should treat them like you would the custom agents in the U.S (with respect) I some ppl (mainly American's) getting major attitiudes when the Jamaican custom agents asked to search their bags. We were greated in the Breezes lounge by pleasantries and cool redstripes :).

Bus trip: I have heard many complaints about the driving and all these other traumatic experiences. The bus ride took us 1hr and 35 mins with traffic. Our bus driver was pleasant and careful and was willing to answer any question that was asked.

Resort Arrival: We were greated at the entrace by the bellhops, the most memorable being Oliver. He handle our items with care and directed us to the check-in counter.
*Customer Service: SANDRA HOLNESS is the customer service manager and I tell you what, I have never in my life met someone as pleasant and sincere as Sandra. She gave us cool towels to wipe our faces even on the day that we were leaving. She Memorized the name of everyone in our party by the first day, and never walked by without saying "hi". I honestyly believe that she has never had a bad day, she is jut always pleasant. The front office staff as well were very cordial, even in situations that I myself would have blown a fuse in.

Food: I loved the food we ate at pastafari for our wedding rehersal dinner and everyone raved about how enticing the food was. The food at the other spots was also scrumptious. I have heard people complaining about the quality of the meal and what not, but I have yet to meet someone who has the ability to cook chicken 10 different ways and these folkes can cook their buns off. In addition to that someone had mentioned being hungry after hours, not quite sure how this happened seeing as there is a midnight buffet. The liquor was also great, they mixed the drinks strong and never hesitated to give us what we asked for.

Room: Our room was upgraded to the ocean view suite with a plunge pool and this was phenomenal. Our friends had regular rooms and enjoyed them just the same. Maid service was prompt and they did a thorough job.
* The facilites: All of our guest thought that the facilities were way above par and we had seasoned travellers to newbies in our group. There are ground keepers every where, I promise you I saw one pick up a leaf that was out of place :).

Wedding: We were so blessed to have had the BEST WEDDING PLANNER that I have ever encountered. KEISHA RICHARDS is phenomenal at her job and even b4 we got to Jamaica she was in constant communication with us. She is very reassuring and knows her stuff, in addition to this she has a very supportive staff. Because of the vision that we had for our wedding we were refered to another wedding planner by Keisha (MS.CLARKE from Touch of Spring Bridal Center) to help us with the theme and decorations that we had in mind. My pictures will say a thousand words and more, Ms. Clarke and Keisha are true professionals and combined they made our wedding day one that we will never forget.

Overall our stay at Breezes Runaway Bay was more than we had anticipated; the people, the food, the service made it all worth our while. OOOh on a side note, I've heard some ppl say in earlier post that if you tip them that you get better service. THATS A LIE, I left $10 on the bed for the maid one day only to return and see it neatly tucked under the lamp. I asked her the following morning why she didn't take the tip and she politely responded, "you can leave me a tip at the desk when you check out". Prior to us atempting to leave that tip our service was phenomenal and after the fact it was just as stellar. The same thing goes for the bartenders, our drinks were just as loaded b4 and after we attempted to tip them.

Sorry for the long epistle I just didn't want to leave anything out. Feel free to contact me if you have questions. And remeber, its your vacations so "relax mon".

If your are looking for a good resort on a couple basis and are not interest in first class service and food, this is your hotel. Great place, recent refurbished and outstanding beach.
Be careful with food and service, much bellow average first class resort. Also the hotel profile is just for honeymoon and couples.
