We stayed at the Hotetur Beach Paradise June 22-29. We went with 2 other couples all in our mid-twenties.
We flew in to Cancun mid-day on American Airlines from Denver, CO. American Airlines was horrible but we were very excited to get to Cancun. We booked a round-trip transfer from the airport to the hotel through Best Day, Expedia also uses them if you book through the Expedia website. They were very easy to find after walking through all the timeshare people at the airport. I would recommend getting the shuttle as one couple did not and had to use a very expensive taxi both ways.
The Hotetur is about a 10-15 minute ride from the airport. Once arriving we were checked in and all of us were put on the same floor. We were in the middle tower (same as the lobby) on the 3rd floor.
ROOM: Our room had a perfect view of the ocean. The other 2 couples didn’t have the same luck, one had a view of a wall, and one had the view of the lagoon. All of the rooms that we had, had 2 double beds. The sink (which was separate from the toilet/shower area) had 2 water bottles supplied. I do not think that they bring more than the 2 bottles that are already there but there are larger containers in the sports bar area that you can use to refill your bottles. The room is nice, maybe a little dated but not uncomfortable. Our AC worked well enough. Our friends that did not have a view, had a great AC, it was an icebox in the room they had. We had no problems with the shower. We did however have to request an iron for the room. They also did not have an alarm clock in the room, but we brought our own and I was grateful we did. No fridge in our room.
There are 3 towers. We stayed in the middle and I did notice that the other 2 towers have balconies and larger windows. If we did not have such a great view I would have asked to move to one of those towers.
BARS: 3 bars. Lobby bar, was the nicest. They gave you larger glass cups if you were to stay in the lobby with them. If not they gave you little tiny hard plastic cups( 6oz). I liked the bahama mama drink. I also loved the pina coladas. The other drinks, not so much. I did like the XX they had on tap. This is also the area that they had activities at during the night that weren’t on the entertainment stage. Sport Bar, nice little bar open late. Has a few game tables. Pool Bar, my favorite! Right in the pool and Wilbur was a very nice bartender. Spent lots of time here.
FOOD:
El Mirador : The buffet. We had breakfast here many time. They have all the regulars, bacon, sausage, potatoes and eggs as well as some specialty dishes. They also had omelets made to order! So good. They had milk, water, orange, and pineapple juice to choose from. One day they even had make your own bloody mary’s set up by the entrance! Yummy. Lunch was good. Dinner had a different theme every night. They also had different meats that they could grill up for you. Ie. Fish, Steak, Chicken. For dessert I really liked the cheesecake!
Italian : Sit down restaurant, no reservations. They had a nice variety of food. You make your own salad. From what I remember you can have a chicken dinner, which everyone loved, pizza, and there are different pastas that you can mix with different sauces. For dessert I got the spumoni, they also offer tiramisu?
The Mediterranean: Sit down restaurant, with reservations. This was very nice. You get a multi-course meal. I got spinach crepes for an appetizer. They also had a shrimp avocado salad. They give you some sorbet to cleanse your mouth in between! Fancy fancy. For the main course I had the shrimp wrapped with mahi mahi. It was fantastic. You can also purchase lobster or steak for and additional amount but we stuck to the menu. They also had some sort of beef dinner and a chicken dinner as well. I heard those were also good. For dessert I selected the chocolate cake with coconut ice cream. It was very good. The other option was a lemon pie, which seemed hard and little. I am glad that I got the other dessert. They also offered white and red wine.
Snack Bar: The snack bar was located next to the pool. I believe it opened at 11am. They have hotdogs (not good) hamburgers that were oval shaped but good. Nachos and French Fries as well as all the condiments. They also had fajitas one day. It was good for a snack.
Late night snack: By the sports bar, they had chicken nuggets, fries, and little finger sandwiches. In case you get the munchies very late.
All and all very good food for the all-inclusive price you pay. I didn’t get sick once like I did in Puerto Vallarta!
POOL: We did not have to exchange a card for a towel we just went up and grabbed one. We always had a chair by the pool and didn’t arrive very early. They pool was very nice and they had activities all day. Bingo, water aerobics, etc. The beach is much nicer on this part of Cancun; compared to some of the hotels we saw further down. The waves are so nice to jump in. They had plenty of chairs and a volleyball net set up down by the beach.
TIP: Use the bus! So cheap and easy to use. You can exchange some cash for coins to ride the bus at the front desk. It is about $1.30, for 2 to ride the bus. They come up in front of the hotel pretty much every other minute. Give them 15 pesos and wait for your change. We didn’t know the first few times to wait for the change.
Any other questions please contact me!! Hope you enjoy your time, and don’t hesitate to go.
