Beautiful hotel, lots of charm. Excellent, very friendly staff. Great complimentary breakfast as well as a complimentary wine and cheese every evening. Perfect romantic spot for couples. Spa was excellent as well. Very central location so lots to do and see in the area.

I booked this hotel to celebrate an anniversary with my fiance and we had a fantastic weekend. The previous reviews made me nervous but when we arrived everything was perfect.

The staff -- Very courteous, helpful and pleasant. No obnoxious attitudes.

The room -- Very spacious, well equipped (the cables needed to be hooked up to the TV to play DVDs), bed was superbly comfortable.

The washroom -- Despite reviews that they are "too dark" - I found it just right, I don't expect there to be a 'kitchen-like' flood light in a washroom; the jacuzzi was great (it turns on by itself after you are done to clean itself, we thought something was wrong but everything was OK). Rain shower was great. Hotel samples were a nice touch and of good quality.

The hotel itself was clean, tastefully decorated. We played a game of pool but that's about all we did in the general area.

Breakfast at Suite 701 was just what you need- good MTL bagels, breads, yoghurts, cheeses, some cereals, great OJ/grapefruit juice. All fresh and delicious.

We parked just down the street for $14 a day, valet was $24 but you can save $10 by walking 200m further.

We both booked 60min Swedish massages at Rainspa. Again service was very good, no waiting around, full hour service. Genevieve was excellent - the atmosphere was so relaxing, my masseuse so effective that I fell asleep. I recommend getting a treatment and you can also use the Hammam (steam room). It was a nice place to relax after the massage but it's not as hot as steam rooms in bathhouses (e.g. Budapest).

I would definitely recommend this hotel and come back for another visit!

Check-in was a breeze and there was no wait, although we were the only ones checking in at the time, around 3:15PM on a Thursday. Parking is $25 (all dollar amounts will be in CAD throughout this review) per day for valet parking, but there’s a lot across the street for about $18. Since it was snowing when we arrived, valet it was! A bellman brought the luggage in and then up to our room once we checked in. Nothing special.

The room was on the fourth floor of the middle building. It was a decent size room, with a king size bed, a leather chair, a small round table with 2 chairs, dresser containing the TV, DVD player, electric fireplace (nice ambience), minibar and some drawers. There was a table and chair with a phone, desk lamp (LED) and Ethernet jack for laptop use. I can see what others have said about the dim lighting, but I thought it was Ok. It provided nice atmosphere. The bathroom was nicely appointed with enough towels, soap, shampoo, etc. There was a sink, glass enclosed shower with a rain head in the center, which was pretty clogged so it wasn’t that great, and a toilet. Overall a nice sized bathroom.

The complementary wine & cheese every night was a little above Ok. You got one glass of wine and they had a few cheese’s setup. It wasn’t all that special, but Ok. We had a late dinner in the lounge one night and I thought it was good. I had a burger. The complementary breakfast each morning was Ok also. A typical “cold” breakfast that most lower end hotel chains would serve.

There’s an ATM off one of the lobbies. There are two lobbies and one of them has a pool table and TV. They were quiet and relaxing.

Checkout was a breeze and had no issues. The car was brought around by the time I was finished at the front desk.

We stayed at the hotel for a two night mini-getaway. The first night we were woken up in the middle of the night by what we thought was "outside" noises. By 5:30 am, the noise had stopped and we tried to get back to sleep which was impossible. The second night we were woken up again by this loud "moving furniture" noise at 2:30-3 am! This continued on for over an hour and we couln't get back to sleep! In the morning when we went ot the "lounge" for our breakfast, we realised that this noise was actually comming from the lounge IN the hotel! The lounge is a bar at night and when the bar closes, staff would move the furniture for the morning breakfast !! Upon checking out, we expressed this to the staff who was helping us to which they denied we could hear this from our room and gladly took our credit card to debit our "sleepless" room for over 200$/night. They did not appologize or offer any appologetic gestures on behalf of the hotel.
We go to Montreal every month or so for a weekend getaway. This was by far the worst two night's sleep we have ever gotten. There are many other beautiful hotels in the area or nearby that will be quiet and provide the four to five star service that they deserve (try hotel Gault or even the Hyatt, both have exceptional service and rooms!). As for this hotel, you could probably stay at a youth hostel and get more sleep than Place D'Armes.. I would save my money for a hotel who will properly give the night's rest to their clients!
