“Could be Better”

The Quincy

3 of 5 stars
Reading, UK
Jun 30, 2008

We stayed at The Quincy for 2 nights in June 08. ON arrival the bell boy was really keen and friendly but thats where the friendliness seemed to stop. After quite a long (and arduous) journey the desk staff were not particularly friendly. This was not only that night but through our stay.

The location of the hotel is really good. You are a couple of locks away from the Metro and we founf this was a great way to get around Washington. The hotel is also right next door to a pub and then on the road up from it (2 minutes walk) there are a number of other pubs and restaurants.

We requested a room that was high up and also facing on the back, mainly based on reviews from this site as we had read that rooms facing onto the main road were really noisy. However, we found that it was still pretty noisy facing the back of the hotel with garbage trucks picking rubbish up pretty early. There was a generator or something near our room which made a fair bit of noise.

The rooms were above average although we were pretty dissapointed as we ended up with a twin room, albeit the twin beds were 4 foot wide. They had a nice sofe and tv with a kitchen area which we didn't use.

They do have a complimentary PC / Internet which was useful for booking in for our flights - nice touch I thought.

On the whole we got a pretty good rate for the hotel. It is in a great location and provided a comfotable base for lots of sightseeing. I would say if you are going primarily to sightsee this hotel provides a good base with good amenities and transport around it. It is just let down by the casual attitude of the staff and just feels like it could do with being spruced up a little.

“Great place to stay!”

My family stayed for 1 week. The staff was very helpful. The room was clean and the housekeeping staff friendly. There were many restaurants perfect for breakfast or lunch very close by. The Metro (subway) was also close by and easy to use. We walked or used the Metro a lot since we didn't have a car.

“Nice place, great location, good price”

This is a great place to stay when in DC. It's close to the Metro, it's clean, rooms are big, bed is super comfortable, and the staff is friendly. We would definitely stay here again, but only in cooler months. The A/C is not that great. The Improv Comedy club is around the corner. They've got great food and great comedians...we went there twice during our week visit. Check it out!

“Very noisy”

The Quincy

Jun 11, 2008

This hotel has a major noise problem in the early morning if you are unfortunate enough to stay on the back side (away from street, toward courtyard). Very loud garbage pickup begins daily at 5am, jolting guests awake....every day). Also during my stay, air conditioning in the hallways was not working (during a 99 degree heatwave) and the tv didn't work properly. On the plus side, the room was spacious and comfortable.

“Backside rooms are terrible”

The Quincy

1 of 5 stars
Brussels
Jun 5, 2008

I expect a hotel to provide a clean room, a comfortable bed and some peace and quiet between 10PM and 8AM. You have to be able to breathe in the room because it is essentially a place you retreat to after a busy day whether traveling on business or for pleasure. I also expect a hotel to deliver what it advertises, staff has to be friendly, professional and helpful.

Pros: large room, nicely decorated, location
Cons: NOISY, unfriendly

We stayed a couple of nights in the Quincy in may 2008. Reservations were made over the internet directly through the hotels website. I specifically asked for a quiet room. Strangely enough, I received no reservation confirmation by e-mail so make sure you write down your reservation number.

You can park your car next door at a rate of $28 per night with in/out privileges. Reception is to the point but far from friendly.

The room is large. You get a large and excellent bed, a sitting corner with comfortable sofa's and a large desk. There is internet available. The cheap wooden blinds do a poor job in shutting out the light. The room is very nicely decorated, You get a refrigerator and a safe.

There was wi-fi internet available but the manager on duty was unable to explain me how I could get it to work on a Mac. The network socket located on the desk lamp was not working. Maintenance fixed it within 10 min. but the man expected a tip for something that should have been working in the first place.

The Quincy does not have a restaurant but works with the restaurant next door. This is actually a Pub and does not fall into the category of a restaurant at all. I urge you to go somewhere else if you want to have dinner.

We got a room on the backside of the hotel. I initially perceived this to be positive but there is a large problem when you are located on the backside of the building and it starts at around 4:30 in the morning. The backside is also a loading (or drop off) location for trucks. Starting from 4:30AM in the morning you get one truck after another backing up into the alley (an this means you also get the very loud beeping sound that a truck makes when it is reversing). This goes on until about 10AM. It is VERY loud, VERY annoying and you cannot get around it with earplugs.

Checkout was not a problem but I expect hotel staff to always inquire if there were any problems. I did fill out the feedback card after the first night signaling the noise problem. My guess is that this is the reason why they didn't bother to ask.

Location: 7/10
Staff helpfulness: 6/10
Cleanliness of the room: 8/10
Room size and decoration: 8/10
Good night of sleep: 5/10

Price was in the $200 range and this would be acceptable if you could have some peace and quiet.

I would not stay in this hotel again unless I have to get up at around 4:30AM.
