Stayed 4 nights at the Majestic Grande February 2008 and can happily echo many of the positive reviews on this hotel. In close proximity to public transportation (Skytrain), shopping and numerous eateries—the Majestic Grande is the perfect home base for active tourists that want to be close to the sights. We especially liked it here because the room rates were very reasonable for such a nice establishment.
Though a tad on the small side, the rooms are very modern, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We didn’t spend a lot of time at the hotel (too busy enjoying Bangkok!); so, aside from the breakfast, we didn’t really partake of the other hotel amenities. The breakfast was average, but there was lots of variety.
Just some things of note…
The sidewalks surrounding the hotel are narrow and uneven. Not a huge problem, but probably a bit difficult to navigate for those with strollers or mobility issues.
Safety: Yes, there is a red-light district somewhere near the hotel but it is easily avoidable. We were doing lots of walking and we never even encountered it. Also, the street that the hotel is located on is dimly lit. However, we (2 females in our early 30’s) felt perfectly safe walking to/from the hotel in the late night hours. The JW Marriott is located just down the street so there is plenty of foot and car traffic at all times.
The concierge will flag down a meter taxi for you. Make sure you confirm the fare BEFORE departing from the hotel. On our final day, the cab driver told us that in addition to the meter price, there was an airport surcharge for taking us TO the airport. Untrue! Always be careful. The hotel employees are extremely helpful and, if asked, they will assist you in communicating with shady cab drivers.
When walking to the Skytrain station, you may cut through the air-conditioned mall on your left. It’s a short distance but the a/c is a welcome reprieve from the heat!
Last but not least, there are tons of fantastic places to eat nearby. Here are some of my favorites:
Foodloft at Central Chidlom – the best high-end food court I’ve ever been to.
Thai Restaurant at Face – for a fancy dining experience.
Crepes & Co – wonderful variety of food in a casual setting. Great dessert crepes!
