I've been a regular guest at Le Meridien Royal Club for the past few years. About one year ago there were many staff changes, and quality seemed to suffer, something I had hoped was the result only of new staff settling in.
Initially, there were only very minor changes - an apparent reluctance to serve drinks refills during Royal Club "Happy Hour", less generous canapés, and detail such as no drizzle of mango syrup on to the mango yoghort at breakfast.
Further visits in July and September last year showed no improvement. Unusually, I then did not visit for seven months, and I now see a definite reduction in value for money.
Specific to the Royal Club:
- free Internet in rooms no longer available (now AED 90 / day)
- one complimentary bottle of house wine / stay no longer offered
- Hermes toiletries replaced with house brand
- evening savoury snack delivered only 1 of 4 days
- evening nightcap delivered only 3 of 4 days
- "Happy Hour" - less canapés; more generous but lower quality wine
- room prices significantly higher / less available discount on rack rates
General to Le Meridien:
- laundry / dry cleaning prices up
- "Terrace" restaurant buffet food and wine quality down
Le Meridien Royal Club has been a wonderful retreat for me, but I am now seriously thinking about a change of hotel in Dubai.
